The International Center of Photography (ICP) is a leading educational institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Founded in New York in 1974 by Cornell Capa, ICP preserves the legacy of socially engaged photography while fostering dialogue about the power of images through exhibitions, education, and public programs.
As the recipient of the 2026 Tulipán Cultural Connection Award, ICP will present Capa Today: Unpacking the Work & Legacy of Robert Capa in the 21st Century, a public symposium exploring the enduring influence of the renowned Hungarian American photographer. Bringing together scholars, artists, and cultural leaders, the symposium will examine Capa's legacy through the lenses of war photography, political protest, cultural diplomacy, and the evolving role of the media. The program will also highlight how Capa's Hungarian Jewish upbringing shaped his artistic vision and political perspective.
Presented in spring 2027, the symposium will serve as a prelude to ICP's major Robert Capa retrospective opening in fall 2028. Through public discussion and scholarly exchange, the program will deepen appreciation for Capa's work while introducing new audiences to his lasting impact on photography, journalism, and visual culture.
